Mexico- Where are my tacos?!

Updated: May 15, 2020

That is really what I thought when I got there, and when I left... Thanks, #Mexico

We flew to #Cancun from Pittsburgh. There is now a #direct flight offered (only one of a few). We were actually provided #drinktickets from #UnitedAirlines, I think just because we had smiles on our faces waiting to board the plane, so that really started our trip off right.

Once we landed in Cancun, we had read and been told prior to just look straight and walk through the airport to the exit, don't make eye contact with everyone and watch your bags. We did that, but it wasn't that concerning or dangerous at all. We had booked a car via the hotel website to take us to our resort, so we found the guy holding a sign that had our hotel and checked our names on his clipboard, we were on it and directed to stand to the side with our luggage. We then were moved over to the other side of the sidewalk to wait in a line for a van. We waited over an hour, as people were pushed on to the vans from the car services, our names were not called. Frustrated, hungry, Hangry, and after asking a few times what was going on, we were finally told since it was later (maybe 3 pm?) in the day they were waiting on a driver that could drive us all the way to our resort since drivers can't exceed driving times. Finally, a driver came that could take us to the TRX Yucatan.

We got in the van with 3 other groups and started our drive down towards #Tulum, really a straight shot from the airport. We came to find out the 3 other groups were staying at 3 different places near #RiveraMaya. So, we had to drop all of these people off (that means getting off of the main road, sometimes having to pull a U-turn, then drive down the long road to their resort, then back up the road from their resort, get on the main road, make another U-Turn to go back the way we needed to. By the time we got to our resort, it was about 2.5 hours after we landed.

Luckily, we were greeted with a fresh towel, smiling faces, and a drink. We checked in and were taken to our room on a golf cart. The resort was open and beautiful. Golf carts were everywhere, we didn't understand why, because we could have walked, but then we realized just how big the resort was. We were recommended this resort from a friend, but they had not been to the side we were going to, it wasn't built yet, as it was going to be adult-only. Our side of the resort was amazing, brand new, and fresh. (Post our booking online, we received emails from our #virtualbutler, that asked us what scent we wanted in the room, what types of alcohol we wanted and juices when we arrived, what types of #nespresso we wanted, and any activities to book in advance.) We had a doorman for the group of rooms we stayed in who would get us reservations at the main Steakhouse, get a cart to drive us around, help us book activity, and had normal conversations with us about our stay. He would ask how my run was when I got back in workout clothes (I went for a run around the property (into the family section), and had got lost during the 3-mile run where I saw birds, flamingos, animals, 3 different pools, and the other 3 resort entrances- when I say the resort was huge, it was huge.), He would ask how the breeze was at the pool, or compliment us on our outfits for the evening.

Since we were staying at the adult side, we automatically had tickets to the show, #ChicCabaret (adults staying at the family side of our resort, had to pay additional for this show, and this is offered to people from off the resort). This show was #amazing. The show is presented 3 nights a week. There is a pre-event/ show prior in the center of the resort that anyone can take part in, with dancers, food passed around, special drinks, models, people walking around in costumes, it is a BIG DEAL. #ChicShow #Chic You will hear it a lot. When it is your night for the show, you get in line, (party still going on around you), and you are let in the doors. You get a drink in hand as you are walked to your private table. There is a menu presented in front of you, (Don't eat prior), you get allll of the food listed. It is part of the show, from an app. to the main course, to soup, to a drink, to a snack, a shot (that everyone takes together and you learn the #cheers), and dessert. This is a must-do, once sentences to sum it up "...you can live a unique experience that transcends gastronomy, where music, dance, and flavors come together to create a party that will surprise and excite all your senses. Let the show begin!"

Back to the resort- Unfortunately the food was not good in the restaurants (at least on the adult side). The beach area was shared with the family side, so there was no adult-only beach, and when we went in January, the seaweed was everywhere. The resort had dump trucks (no joke) cleaning up the seaweed all through the day, and the smell of sulfur was in the air, you couldn't escape it at the beach. So, we spent most of our time at the adult-only infinity pool, that was pretty nice. Now, we could have gone to the other pools at the resort, but only adults were allowed at ours. It was relaxing, but if you wanted to play any type of game (like volleyball), you would have to go to the family side. There was also another pool that was fresh seawater- It seems like a great idea until you get there. The pool led right into the ocean, so fish could get into the pool,

(talk about the shark in the deep end when you were a kid), and seaweed would get into the pool, so the groundskeepers were always cleaning it up.

The infinity pool was great though, had 2 bars, and every day had a cook come out and give a different kind of Mexican dish on the grill. For the drinks, I really fell in love with PatronXO, and Hornitos and spicy margs with the spicy salt the rimmed the glasses with (still crave it).

I did not get the authentic Mexican tacos that I wanted. I thought about it when we left the resort to go to the Tulum Ruins, but the only way to do that was pulled over to the side of the road, and I don't think the other people in the van would have appreciated that. It was safe, but when you see police with large guns in tree stands to line the road or police trucks with police standing in the back holding guns pulling up to you at a red light, you consider this. (Really though, it was safe, and everyone was very friendly).

We went to the Tulum Ruins from a booking agent from our hotel, (Do this! Don't go by yourself because you will wait in a long line, and by the time you get in, there will be people all over so you can't get any good photos (expectation vs real life). It was a very strange, unique experience. We had a tour guide for about 45 min. (very knowledgeable), then we could walk and do our own thing. The beach was closed, but you could walk down and see it. Once you exited from the ruins, you were put out into shops, and vendors who would hassle you to buy something. Included in our ticket to the ruins was a tequila and chocolate tasting in the main shop, so we took advantage of that. But if you wanted a Starbucks coffee or Häagen-Dazs Ice Cream, you could get that too.

You know I have a video for this too! Over 800 views!

#Final Review: As I said before from Jamaica and Jamaica, an all-inclusive is not for everyone. Try it out, that way you know what sort of travel you like, or if you just want and need to get away, and don’t want to put much thought on what to do, how am I going to eat and what to drink- book one!
