… Austin is beautiful! I haven’t been to other areas in TX yet, but I can say, this city is beautiful.
The first time I went, it was for a bachelorette party (I know, another destination party). We got a house using Air B&B a little out of the city. We were told it was in a safe area and in walking distance to a grocery and liquor/ beer store. It sure was within walking distance, but the neighborhood was… kind of sketchy, but we ended up being OK. Now, this was before the city had Uber and Lyft so we had to use an app called RideAustin to get around the city for the trip. The first night we went into the city and had dinner at La Condesa and it was delicious (highly recommended, make sure to get a reservation through) and then did some bar hopping in the area.
The next day we did a bike bar.
This is a MUST way to see the city. We met in a back ally with our cooler of beer and matching tank tops. The driver arrived, we got on and started cycling, we used the company Austin Bar Bike (recommended!). The few stops we made included The Tiniest Bar in TX (You must do a shot here), The Mean Eyed Cat, The Ranch, Parlor and Yard (outdoor games like Lifesize Jenga and connect 4) and a few other places. It was great, and really a nice way to see what the city has to offer. After the bike, we stayed in the city to hang out and moved into downtown as well. One place we did go was Easy Tiger for the outdoor patio, drinks, and homemade peppered beef jerky (my mouth is watering over the jerky as I write this). For the night, of course, we ended up on Rainey Street.
Wikipedia History lesson: Rainey Street used to be a sleepy residential street, but since the early 2010’s the porches and yards are now for bars, cocktail lounges, eateries, and nightlife.
Rainy street Recommendations- Bangers for beer and outdoor music, Container Bar, Via 313 for Pizza, and the circus bar- UnBarLievable.
Another time I went to Austin for a weekend getaway, we stayed with friends at Pflugerville, right outside of Austin. We spent some time at The Domain, for shopping and some nice places for food. I didn’t get one bad meal, but some worth calling out include Yard House for dinner and drinks and even has outdoor cornhole, try Sprinkles for desert. This area can also easily lead you to bar hopping through the area of The Rose Room, and Kung Fu Lounge. We also made a stop for SLAB BBQ- a must.
The last time I went to Austin, I went to a friend’s wedding. There were a lot of out of town people, so everyone was invited to the rehearsal dinner, and it so happened to be at the rooftop of La Condesa. The couple got married at Stone House Ranch.
It was everything you can picture for an outdoor ceremony and a beautiful ranch reception with outdoor areas. This place was great with indoor (you need that AC for a September wedding) and outdoor area with everything in one location, yet we were never in the same spot for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. We ended up with Family style BBQ for dinner- a must if you are getting married in TX (dessert did include the Pittsburgh Cookie Table).
I will be visiting Austin again as there is so much the city has to offer and that I didn’t do, notice I didn’t mention Lake Travis, or hiking once, though I am looking forward to traveling to other areas of TX. Oh Yea, don’t forget to stop at Torchy’s and have breakfast tacos before you leave!
